Do I Fit? Ongoing Fees & Charges What's Next? FAQ's
Is there any experience or training I need to have to become a franchisee? While business experience is always a positive, there are no requirements or prerequisites. We have a diverse range of franchisees from a variety of backgrounds. All we expect is that you embrace our customer service culture, be a contributor to the whole group and run your business with passion and energy. We’ll teach you the rest. Are there any additional costs I can expect? All charges by The Athlete’s Foot are detailed in the disclosure statement (which you will receive with your draft franchise documents), but in short we charge one all encompassing franchisee fee for the territory which covers the first 10 years of any territory. There are no additional charges from The Athlete’s Foot in relation to the establishment of the store, though naturally there are professional fees in relation to documentation. In addition there may be a security deposit applicable to your lease and you should discuss this with your financier, and you should allow for your own costs in relation to professional advice and to travel to Sydney for induction training. If you are purchasing an existing store there will be a transfer fee (payable by the outgoing franchisee) associated with the sale, and a territory renewal fees apply after the first 10 years and then on each 5th anniversary – so if you are purchasing an existing store you should check with us as to how this will impact you based on the store you are buying. What training do I get before we open? Our support in this regard has two phases – the induction training in Sydney and then we come to you to help set up the store, continue your training and train your staff. Am I compelled to buy stock from the franchisor? How much autonomy do I have in choosing my range? You don’t buy any stock from us – it is all purchased direct from the supplier. The Athlete’s Foot gains no benefit from one brand over another in terms of the stock you buy – our only interest is in you buying the correct stock at the right levels to suit your store and market. Integral to this is a high degree of autonomy for each franchisee in choosing their range. We set an approved brands list and you will be expected to participate in nationally marketed product campaigns, but beyond this you have a great degree of flexibility in choosing the range that suits your local market. How do I know what the fitout will cost? We can provide you an estimate based on similar recent stores. It is impossible to provide firm costings early on however, because we go to competitive tender for each project to ensure that you are getting the best price. Do you have any formal relationships with banks or other lenders? Yes – we are an accredited franchise system with several major lenders and will be happy to pass on the details for each for you to talk to. How much money can I earn as a franchisee? Unfortunately it is impossible to estimate the results of any new store – the are many variables that contribute to success, including the performance of the franchisee. As part of the investigation process we will provide you with sales and financial comparisons for our existing stores and make as an informed a decision as possible.
